What is the difference between forgiveness and remission

This is a picture of remission of sins. When we receive Christ as our Savior, we become new creatures in Him 2 Cor. We begin again with a clean slate. If a sinner had to confess all of his sins to be saved, then he could never be saved. A sinner could never think of everything he has ever done wrong—because everything he has ever done is wrong! Whenever a person accepts Christ as his Savior, his spirit is recreated and his sins are remitted once and for all.

You may wonder, What happens if the person misses it after he is born again? What if he sins? Any Christian who commits sins receives forgiveness.

If he were to receive remission, everything he had ever done in the past—both good and bad—would be wiped out. Even his New Birth would be erased. But that is not the case, because the Christian—the person who is already born again—does not receive remission; he receives forgiveness.

Thank God for that word forgiveness. Mark As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be when the Son of Man is revealed. Few will be saved by water. It is evident that when a man is baptized for the remission of sins its effectiveness is acknowledged in heaven.

In every instance that water baptism is mentioned in the book of Acts, it precedes the baptism of the Holy Ghost, with one exception. This case would no doubt have been as others, had not the six men that went with Peter forbade him to baptize the Gentiles in water.

There may be some exceptions taken to the distinction made in this article between forgiveness and the remission of sins, because the same Greek word is used for both terms aphesis, or aphiemi, which literally means 1 deliverance, forgiveness, liberty, pardon; 2 to send forth, to cry, forgive, forsake, lay aside, leave, let alone, omit, put away, remit, suffer, yield up, etc. That will not fix the window.

If a lost sinner asks God to forgive him, his life will improve. Remission means to be covered up or retained to not spread, increase or be in the way. But it is still there. Like a cancer in remission is still a cancer. Redemption means to actually buy something and go pick it up. That is what saves you.

Jesus Christ died for your sins to purchase you and own you. He will also one day come and pick us up. Jesus cleared the way for your understanding of salvation so you could chose it, if you want.

Next he would actually offer himself to take away that sin. We also get free forgiveness of sins. After salvation remission is irrelevant and redemption is permanently fixed, but forgiveness to maintain and sustain a close, blessed walk with the Lord is a continual process. It has nothing to do with going to heaven or hell.
