How is hazelnut milk made
Once the nuts have soaked for a while, strain them and add them back to a high powered blender such as a Vitamix with 2 cups fresh water. Blend them for a good minute until thick, creamy, and a lovely creamy caramel-y colour. To strain the nuts, pour the mixture into a nut milk bag, or layered cloth such as cheesecloth or fresh tea towels, and bundle up carefully so as not to spill the mixture out of the top.
You can do this in batches if you find it easier to work with. Squeeze out as much liquid as you can into a large jar or container — there should be just shy of two cups of milk here.
From here, you can enjoy as is or add in some flavoring. Preheat the oven to C F and roast the nuts on a baking tray for 10 - 15 minutes until golden. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly, Place in a clean tea towel and rub to remove some of the skins.
Place the hazelnuts in a jar and cover with water and allow to soak an hour or two, or overnight. Strain and rinse, and then add to a high-powered blender with 2 cups fresh water. Blend until smooth and creamy, around a minute.
Strain through a nut bag or cheesecloth until most of the liquid is removed. Store in a jar in the fridge up to five days. Nothing beats the taste of roasted hazelnuts!
I love that flavour — and it sounds heavenly to make milk from roasted hazelnuts! Definitely making this some time! Would the pulp not add needed fiber for your gut?? Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you, L. Love how easy this was. How long can it be stored in the fridge for? I would use it within about days to be safe — shake well before using and definitely smell it to be sure!
Thank you for the recipe! Soaking my hazelnuts over night. Do I need fresh water in the morning or should I use the same from soaking? Thank you for posting! Hi Michelle! I love this Laura! I have never tried making any type of nut milk but hazelnuts are my favorite nuts and I think you got me craving this now.
Which I loved as well. This sounds really good! So creamy and gorg! I guess it is time that I invest in one, haha! That sounded a little odd too … whatever, hazelnuts and milk and cocoa were made to be together. This would take breakfast and lattes and just about anything to the next level!
Hazelnut milk is the bomb! And your chocolate and date version looks scrumptious. Definitely good enough to enjoy on its own.
Thanks for turning me on to nut milk! This hazelnut milk looks like the next best thing and that chocolate goodness that you transformed it into is beyond awesome! Hazelnuts are legit my favourite nut.
Then rinse out your blender cup and dump the milk into it. I use a carafe or jar — like these glass lidded Weck Jars that I also found on amazon the set comes in a full size and a half size and this recipe perfectly fills them both up. You could also fill up several mason jars with it. I tried to make it as thorough as possible in case any of you were making this for the first time at home — I wanted to take as much of the guesswork out of it as I could. And if I left something out and you still have some lingering questions — drop all your questions down in the comments below!
